Quotation from the ‘Mrs Deane’ review:
“The 30 x 36 centimeter oversized book in dark grey canvas, with a hard cover and without page numbers hits right in the middle of my taste spot. The book contains a mix of science, occult belief, hope and crime, with “transformative events” binding it all together.
The images themselves are neither scientific, nor mystical. Every chapter of images is introduced by short statements on the subject or the portrayed persons. The poses of the people, the evenly lit rooms and landscapes give the book the right “speed”. The documents from the court archive in the back of the book are the most disconcerting. These forensic photos, originally attached to the documents, were made to reconstruct the events, and lack the care of Paans’ approach. Yet at the same time, those images give the impetus to scroll into the book again, looking for new connections of all that happened.”
